For me, no ABS shines in the snow, because I know how to keep my wheels from locking up but not keep them so loose that I slide through an intersection. (Which recently happened, ABS and brakes were all around fixed on my dad's Ranger right after it snowed and he actually slid theough an intersection and got t boned because it wouldn't stop, and he was keeping his foot down - not pumping.)

If you don't know how to drive with ABS, DO NOT DISABLE IT AND EXPECT EVERYTHING TO BE FINE. The reason I suggested it to the OP is because he was already pumping his brakes as if he knew how do do without.

Every car I have ever owned for many years was non ABS, and rear wheel drive as well. In Denver. My first car was a '66 Mustang with the 289. Yes I learned to drive without it. My '98 Ranger has rear wheel ABS and my '07 has full ABS. Given the choice I will go with ABS every time.

I'm sure excessive speed for the conditions was involved - You're going to slide in snow lol

The rain didn't cause the accident, driving to fast for conditions did. The backed up highway didn't cause the accident, following too closely did. The hill didn't cause the accident, falling asleep while driving did. The ABS didn't cause the accident, driving too fast for conditions did. People used to be expected to know how to adjust their driving for various conditions they might face. Guess that is passe now.

I'm not gonna lie, he does drive fast, and was probably going faster than the claimed 10mph, but he tried stopping way sooner than normal (about 5 houses in advance), went about the same speed as he always does, and slid the whole way instead of stopping.

He admits he is at fault and isn't making excuses, but I did notice he disabled the ABS right afterwards.

Again, ABS on or off is for you to decide, I am obviously dead set on having it gone unless I am on pavement but I do respect your decision to keep it.

Anyone looking to disable ABS should also consider the consequences related to insurance and the law before disabling a required safety device....

I would imagine lawyers would have a field day with that decision after an accident.

I think this thread has run its course (with or without ABS).
