Default Cost to change slave cylinder?

I'm new to this forum so I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question (should I be in tech?), but here goes:

Hi! I have a question. I just had the master cylinder on my truck replaced and they charged me $250.00 for the part (Clutch Master/Slave Cylinder assembly) - but they only changed the Slave Cylinder - Not the Master and also charged $400.00 for Labor. (they said only the slave cylinder needed changing). So the total was $650.00

My question is: Is that price right?

Everything I read about the cost for this for the Ranger (on Google) suggested it may have been too much. But I'm not sure. So I thought I would ask here since you folks are all about the Ranger. Thanks!

The slave cylinder alone shouldn't have cost $250, not sure if OEM cost that much, my replacement was around $70 I think, it's been awhile. But to replace it they had to drop the transmission so it was a lot of labor.

Thanks for your reply! I guess the kit itself was overpriced - especially since he charged me for the whole thing and kept part of it - though I did crawl under the truck to see the work and it does look like he used the hydraulic line - cause it looks new - though he kept the rest of the master cylinder and its line. Do you remember what the total was for you including the labor?

I did labor myself. I wish I paid somebody $650 to do it

When the slave cylinder is replaced, the whole clutch assembly is usually done since it's in the clutch kit. Flywheel resurfaced too. The rear main oil seal is done too since the transmission is pulled.

He told me the clutch was fine and didn't resurface anything - pretty sure he didn't do the rear main oil seal either. He simply changed the slave and the hydraulic line but not the rest of the master cylinder assembly, (though he charged me for the whole kit - Dorman CC649033). $250 for the kit and $400 for the labor = $650.00. I don't know enough to determine if this service/labor/price was poor, fair, excellent, mixed... might like to leave a review but I'm in a haze whether I should be happy or find another mechanic. Any thoughts? Thanks!

(When I tried submitting the above reply it said "database error" - I'll try once more)

The total price doesn't sound out of reason, but if I paid for the master cyl, and he didn't install it, I would want it in my hand.
