Angry Engine cutout at 3000rpm like hitting rev limiter

Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have an 04 Edge with about 85,000 miles on it.
Today I jumped into it and accelerated away from my house like normal.
As soon as the truck hit 3,000 rpms it lost power. It was as if I had hit a rev limiter. I turned around and put it in park.
I reved the truck up to 3000rpms same thing.
It can hold 2900 rpms just fine...not even a hiccup but the second it hits the magic 3000 mark its like I an asthmatic kid doing wind sprints while breathing through a straw.

I let the truck sit for 4 hours thinking it had been pouring today maybe some of the wiring got wet and tried again. Exact same results. Fine at 2900; gutless at 3000.

Guy at auto parts store said was probably EGR valve but I dont think the 3.0 has an EGR valve in 04.

Also, no error codes thrown yet

Yes it has a rev limiter at 3k RPM. It should not be limited to 3k while in gear, however. Only in park or neutral.

Yes. I would not be surprised if it happened in park or even neutral but it is cutting out in gear at 3000 rpms

Apparently the computer is confused somehow and applies the limiter at all times. Disconnect the negative battery cable for a while. I've heard of stranger things.

Tried disconnecting negative cable. Still doing it. Going to replace fuel filter next and see if that is problem

How long did you leave the battery disconnected?

An electrical system can hold an electrical charge for a long while, after being removed from a power source. In the case of vehicular computers, up to an hour, thanks to capacitors, and capacitance charging (an electronic component holding a small bit of current til it dissipates)

Twenty minutes or so should clear the computer, in the event that you might not have waited quite long enough..

Yeah, that'd do it. Use a fuel dryer to get it cleared?

Could also be the cam sync....it tends to show itself over 3k RPM. Your engine is right around the magic 80k milestone....
