bigger tires and a 3.0?
I couldn't find anything in the search, so sorry if this has been covered already. I've got the 3.0L in my truck and was wanting to put some 245/75/r16 wrangler duratrack or bfg a/t tires on it, but can't afford to lose much power. So I was just wondering how much power and mpgs you 3.0 guys are losing to bigger tires.

Re: bigger tires and a 3.0?
Hey man! It mostly depends on what rear end gears you have. A 245 is not a really big tire, so I don't see that being a problem. What size tire do you have on there right now? I am running 265/75/R16's with the 3.0 and 4:10 gears. And I have plenty of power, and great MPG's. Below is a link that shows you how to look up your axle code. That way you can find out what gears you have. Hope that helps!

Re: bigger tires and a 3.0?
Right now I have 235/75/r15 with a 3.73 gears and getting about 18 mpg in the summer running E85. Im wanting to run either 265/75/r16 or 245/75/r16.

Okay, Cool! Both those tire sizes will fit. You will probably notice quite a bit of difference going from a 235 to 265 but it definately can be done. I know of several guys running bigger tires than that on 3.73's. If you do the 245's, everything will pretty much stay the same as far as MPG's and power. You probably won't even notice the difference...

Re: bigger tires and a 3.0?
My old man has a 2000 Ranger 4x4 3.0 extended, essentially the same truck as yours. He is running 255/70R16 with a 4.10 rear end and is getting around 17-18 MPG.
The tires you want should fit with no problem. Now if you want to keep your 15" rims look into getting 31" tires which would be right in between a 245/75 and 265/75 and they look really good on these trucks.

Re: bigger tires and a 3.0?
265/75/15s on my 3.0 with 3:73 gears. I average about 16-17mpg mostly city if I keep my foot out of it....which most of the time I usually don't. I usually only drive 50 miles a week so I am not as concerned about mileage as I use to be.

Re: bigger tires and a 3.0?
My 2000 3.0 4x4 came with 245/75r/16 tires, and with 4:10 in the rear I also get about 16.5 mpg

Re: bigger tires and a 3.0?
If you can't afford to lose much power, first stop burning E85!!! That crap sucks.
E85 burns cleaner and is better for the environment, but you lose gas mileage and power, thus you are going to burn more of it.
MY 99 3.0 is a flex fuel and can burn E85, so i found out first hand how much it sucks.
And don't even bother mixing E85 with regular or medium, that makes no sense. Some people swear to it, but it's like drinking water downed beer.
Consider this, fill half a tank with 87 then fill other half with 92. Your basically making a mixture of 89.
Maybe I'm wrong about that, but i know E85 will not increase your fuel mileage.
