My ranger came stock with 14x6 wheels on 215/70/14 tires. Upgraded to 15x8 wheels with 235/75/15 tires (for now) and it made a huge difference. Once I have enough money for a lift kit, I'll toss 31x10.5x15 on.

Re: 235/75/R15 vs stock 225/70/R15 effects
I have the same truck, about 900 km on the odometer. just went to 265's because I had them around. Works fine. Don't know about mpg as I'm still on my second tank since new. Power is fine.
I have 1 inch wheel spacers, wheel studs too short. Need to go 1/2 to 3/4 inches longer. Anyone know a suitable doner vehicle I can get the longer studs from? Appreciated.

the put 35 psig in the tires, might try upping that a little too and see what happens.

I read the Toyo tire pressure tables recommended on another thread which indicated with the larger tire the pressure should actually be lower for the same load. So I dropped the pressure down to 30 psig all around and that reduced the bouncing a lot. I'll just watch to see how the tread contact is and see if I need to make any adjustments.
Still had a couple of rebounds going over speed bumps, so new shocks would probably help as well.

Re: 235/75/R15 vs stock 225/70/R15 effects
An update today. 30 psig helped a lot with the bounce, but I'm a little hesitant to run them that low. I set the tire pressure back to 35 psig cold after finding out that's what the 2011's that come from the factory with 235's have as Ford's recommended pressure.
The slight bounciness on the highway settled down a little as I've put some miles on the tires.
Today I did the chalk test and the front was fine at 35 psig cold/38 psig hot, but I lowered the rear to 32 psig cold/35 psig hot which left just a tiny spot of chalk on the outside edge of the tread. That helped improve the ride. It's good on the street and freeway now.
Still rebounds about 3 times over speed bumps even when I go slow over them. The pushdown test isn't bad, get a little side to side wiggle.
I have some new Bilstein 4600's ordered that might help, but might not help much since I don't think the OEM shocks are too bad at 54K.
Performance is fine with the 235's.
I'll be driving it to Southern Utah in a couple of weeks and will get real calculated mpg's a few times during that trip. That's 500 miles one way.
I'm sure lots of guys who don't want a lift or really big tires will like the slight jump up to 235's. It was right for me, looks much better and rides on the highway better. Thanks for your input on going there.

Re: 235/75/R15 vs stock 225/70/R15 effects
Another update. I put the Bilstein 4600's on today. It fixed the bouncing over speed bumps going slow, now it settles out the first time. Not as much side to side in the driveway either. The OEM's at 45K didn't seem bad on the street or freeway, but I compressed them after I took them off. One made a scraping rough sound, another had little resistance. The Bilstein compression is definitely stiffer than the OEM, but it doesn't ride harsh, rides good.
So I'm happy. If I hit a speedbump too fast I'm sure it will bounce. My 2012 Rubicon has Bilstein 5100's and it doesn't rebound if slow, but if I hit them fast it's rough. Still a truck!

just completed my 1000 mile round trip to Utah. got 25 mpg going whatever the speed limit was - 65, 70 or 75 mph on they way there. got 24 mpg on the trip home going 75 mph most of the way. trip up was in 95-105F temperatures and trip home was in 85-90F temperatures. a/c was on pretty much the whole trip. temperature gauge didn't budge. power was fine, after getting used to running 3500 rpm on all the grades and hills when it shifted down. handled perfectly with the bilsteins on canyon curves, actually took them 10 mph faster glued to the road than i'm comfortable with in my F-150 and JK. seat comfort was fine. great little truck!

Re: 235/75/R15 vs stock 225/70/R15 effects
Just had 235/75/15s installed and was the best thing ever for this pickup. Feels safer, rides smoother, looks much better and having more fun driving around. The 225/70/15s just never felt right to me. Thanks to these forums, I learned I could upsize.
Thanks guys

Re: 235/75/R15 vs stock 225/70/R15 effects
In case anyone is still following this thread, just wanted to say thanks for the great information, especially bbolander. I was searching the forum to try and find this exact information! I have a 2010 four cylinder with the stock 225/70s on 15in wheels and am always envious of rangers with 235s but was unsure if this was risky for the long term condition of the vehicle. I have 67K miles on it and still have sufficient tread on the original ContiTrac tires (I live in Florida and drive it really easy, not much hauling at all and only drive on paved roads), just trying to get educated because I will need new tires soon. Perhaps I will get my new tires this fall after I send in my final payment.

^you can even fit 31x10.5 tires as I've done.
Neither 235s or 31s will cause you much trouble.

My 2010 2.3 stick has 208 thousand miles. I drove it off the stealership brand spanking new in 2010.
I bought it to use it

^we're all very proud of you man, 200k+ miles... you really drive a lot!
The rest of us should all be ashamed... not driving our vehicles enough like we should, treating them like collection pieces.
