Question 33" help

so idk if this is the right thread but it said everything to do with tires
So I just got a set of 33x12.5x15, now i just got to get them to fit. for starters, i have a 1999 xlt 4.0 2wd with coil susp, not sure if its an "edge" or "sport" but i think its a sport. i have some questions, ill start with the rear,
i do not want to lift the rear but if i have to i will, rumor has it 33s will fit in there but i have my doubts. also i check the tire size thread and unless im mistaken you can put a 12.5 tire on a 7.5 rim? or does it need to be a 8? and if i change the rims what would the appropriate back spacing need to be?
Now up front i was looking at maybe spindles with spacers up front and flares or should i try lift coils with new shocks? also spacers? as you can tell im pretty amateur to all this i just want a plan before i go talk to my mechanic friend.
preciate the advice.

Honestly, Those are pretty big tires for a 4x4 ranger without some sort of lift, so for a
2wd ranger, really big... if yor trying to do this on the cheap and easy, and your dead set on putting those tires on. Just get a body lift and do it that way... cheap and easy and will look better then trying to cram those things on... Just an idea...

Edge and Sport are different trim levels (well, similar) as is the XLT. Since you are an XLT you can't be anything else.

In the tire size sticky, below is the part you need to reference. It looks like you will need to get atleast 3" higher and the cheapest way to do so is a body lift.

------
98-00

XLT & XL & Sport 2wd

* 15x7 stock suspension - 215x75x15, 235x75x15, 235x60x15, 30x9.5x15, 31x10.5x15(may need to trim)

* 15x8 stock suspension - 30x9.5x15, 31x10.5x15(may need to trim)

* 15x7 body lift or suspension lift - 30x9.5x15, 31x10.5x15, 32x11.5x15, 33x10.5x15(may need to trim), 33x12.5x15(will need trimming)

* 15x8 body lift or suspension lift - 30x9.5x15, 31x10.5x15, 32x11.5x15, 33x10.5x15(may need to trim), 33x12.5x15(will need trimming)

* 15x7 body lift AND suspension lift - 32x11.5x15, 33x10.5x15, 33x12.5x15(may need to trim)

* 15x8 & 15x10 body lift AND suspension lift - 32x11.5x15, 33x10.5x15, 33x12.5x15(may need to trim)

As far as lifting the front of a coil sprung truck I have no idea what works. I have torsion bars so I never research anything involving coil springs.

oh yea, i know they are big, and i love em'. so your saying 3 inches will clear me so would 3 in spindles + 2 in shackles in the back give me the clearance? i would honestly rather do that than a body lift, whenever i see those spacers through the rear wheelwell i just think it looks tacky. im not stuck in being "cheap" i just dont want to spend 2k. and what about re gearing?

Ya, I dont like body lifts either, but theres really now way to get those underneath there and have clearance to drive without doing something, and as far and the rearend thats the easy part, its the front on a 2wd truck thats gonna be alittle tricky... If you did a 3" body it really wouldnt look bad as far as seeing the spacers and stuff, its when guys do bigger body lifts, that you start seeing it look bad... Just my thoughts...

Im really not even sure if just 3"s will still be tall enough to get them in there either... You might still have to go taller... I couldnt fit 33's on my truck without them rubbing sometimes and I have a 3" lift on my 4x4 ranger...

Search around on here. There are a lot of threads that will answer all of your questions. Bunch of 2wd guys running 33s. I would suggest spindles and lift coils for the front and shackles and add a leaf for the rear. Regearing would depend on your current gears. Look on your door jamb stick and it will give you a code. Here are a few common codes. there are a few threads on axle codes
Code-axle size-gears
84-7.5"-3.45
85-7.5"-3.55
86-7.5"-3.73
87-7.5"-4.10s
96-8.8"-3.73s
97-8.8"-4.10s

yea so i checked my door jam, which says "r5" which i think is the 7.5 with the 3.55 ratio- so if i put these tires on i should definetly consider regearing? even though its a 4.0?
also my mechanic is convinced that spindles and shackles will be enough to get them in there. i must say im hardly convinced lol

Since you are coil sprung you will need at least the 3 inch spindles and lift springs. You will want to regear. You will lose a lot of power. I can tell a difference with my 32s and 3.73s. It would probably be cheaper to just buy another axle from a junkyard to tell you the truth. Find an axle with at least a 6 in the code. R6,96, R7, 97,

right on,
i went ahead and ordered some spindles on ebay for 2wd xlts from LIFTUSA. i talked to the guy says they will fit no problem and hes a top rated seller on ebay so ill take his word for it. it comes with 2in shackles for the rear so we will see if thats enough, if not ill order a pair of lift coils and new shocks too. We shall see. as for the gearing we will see how it feels and if its really bad ill have it regeared at the shop. my evil side wants a 9in rear end and long travel but this is my daily driver so i figure the only thing i wont shortcut on is the gearing.. I attached a before photo,
ill make a post in projects later when its all done
