How to Change Drum Brakes [Video]
Hey guys, I had to change my rear brakes so I made a how to video for anyone who wants to change their rear drum brakes! I know drums scare a lot of people because of all of the small springs and parts...
So here is an in-depth video:
And the shorter, overview video will be out soon!!!

Re: How to Change Drum Brakes [Video]
Awesome. I would like to make note of something for the good of the order here. The rear brakes to significantly less work than the front brakes. They can go 2-3 times longer between replacements compared to the front. I had 117,000 miles on my rear drums before they finally died, and I was very hard on them.
If they've been on your truck for a long time, you might need to break shit to get them off. The drums had to be torched and destroyed to remove them. So plan on some extra time and tools if this is the case.

Re: How to Change Drum Brakes [Video]
Thanks guys! Yea, the pin, spring, and hat that holds down the rear shoe was missing so my brakes wore prematurely at 100k... Oh well, now I wont have to change them for another 150K miles haha

Re: How to Change Drum Brakes [Video]
Thanks for the great video! I am sure, but didn't check, there's gotta be a video floating around her to do the front disc brakes.
Maybe next time before you replace the new drums spray paint them some color?

Re: How to Change Drum Brakes [Video]
you have a lot of slack on your emergency brake spring to be able tyo pull it back by hand. mine is really tight. is that bad? i had to fight to get it on the ebrake arm. and when i put the ebrake strut back in i cant get the drum back on. what is the problem?

Mine was really tight as well. I was really pulling hard. But it does sound like yours is extra tight. Is the emergency brake on when you are changing the brakes?

Re: How to Change Drum Brakes [Video]
No. I haven't used the emergency brake since I changed shoes in December because I can't get the drum back on the assembly with the strut in. I left it out and put it back together. I put it in with the spring side forward and the other end in the groove of the e-brake arm and it's like it pushes the shoes too far apart for the drum to fit on. It's my arch-nemesis...
