Default Is there a way you can measure how far your tire will stick out?

Sorry for posting so many different questions on wheels and tires guys I'm just new to this stuff and this should be the last question.

I have a 2002 Edge with the stock 15x7 D shape wheels (I'm not sure what the backspacing and offset is on them). I am going to buy the Ultra Rogue 175 wheels 15X8 with a -19 Offset and a 3.75 Backspace and install 31X10.5 tires.

Is there a way I can measure an accurate/semi-accurate measurement on how far these wheels will stick out? Someone mentioned cutting a 1/2 piece of strapping and sitting it on my wheel? :S I cannot have them out past my fenders or if installed my fender flairs here or its a $400.00 fine.

86indy included a photo of his truck with 15x10 wheels 3-3/4 B/S with 32x11.5r15. Would this be very similar with a 15x8? I love the width but his almost looks to stick out just a bit. If you guys have a 15x8 with -19 OS and 3.75 BS please attach a pic!

Thanks!

Yes.

Once you fully understand the definition of backspacing - it's just a little simple math.

This should help:

7" wide wheel w/ 4.50" Backspacing (+12 offset) - meaning 2.50" outboard. (Stock)
8" wide wheel w/ 3.25" Backspacing (-32 offset) - meaning 4.75" outboard. (aka - 2.25" further "out" than stock as well as being 1.25" inward less than stock)
8" wide wheel w/ 3.75" Backspacing (-19 offset) - meaning 4.25" outboard. (aka - 1.75" further "out" than stock as well as being .75" inward less than stock)
8" wide wheel w/ 4.00" Backspacing (-12 offset) - meaning 4.00" outboard. (aka - 1.50" further "out" than stock as well as being .50" inward less than stock)
8" wide wheel w/ 4.50" Backspacing (0 offset) - meaning 3.50" outboard. (aka - 1.00" further "out" than stock as well as being the same distance inward as stock)
10" wide wheel w/ 3.75" Backspacing (-44 offset) - meaning 6.25" outboard. (aka - 3.75" further "out" than stock as well as being .75" inward less than stock)
10" wide wheel w/ 4.00" Backspacing (-38 offset) - meaning 6.00" outboard. (aka - 3.50" further "out" than stock as well as being .50" inward less than stock)
10" wide wheel w/ 4.50" Backspacing (-25 offset) - meaning 5.50" outboard. (aka - 3.00" further "out" than stock as well as being the same distance inward as stock)

No - Again, it goes back to understanding what the definition of backspacing is.

If two wheels have the same backspacing but are 2" different in overall width - that means that all of the extra width is on the 'outboard' side of the wheel. So, the 10" wide wheel would stick out 2" more than your 8" wide wheel would for a given backspacing. This is also indicated by my 'chart' above.

It shouldn't be hard to find that combination - It has got to be one of the most common aftermarket setup's ever for a Ranger on this forum.

I'm sure there are close to a hundred in this thread alone: http://www.fordrangerforum.com/wheel...ence-page.html
