Default no brakes? bled rears, still very soft pedal

well today i drove with a friend to cut/deliver some firewood to a family friend of his from his grandpa's house and had decent brakes when we arrived and through the 1st delivery(its a ranger..doesnt hold much so it took 2 big ass loads roof high) well half way back for the 2nd one i pushed my brake pedal to slow up for a stop sign..i had nothin, pedal hit the floor..so i downshifted quick, slowed up and used my E brake to stop fully..well after that we made it back to his grandpa's n i checked my brake fluid, was bone dry or damn close so luckily we found some and refilled it and my buddy hurridly bled the rear brakes(i assume ford is the same as gm in that the rear brakes determine pedal pressure) as i pumped the pedal ..well we got it to were it should be nice n firm pedal

so after loading up the 2nd load i go to leave n realize that the pedal is now still almost to the floor but i still works the brakes..not wanting to unload it all we kept on and dropped off the wood and i drove home..

so do i just need to bleed my rear brakes more?? or is there a parts issue?

and the above were the brake fluid resovor was empty..yes i shoulda kept up on that..just current events have me preoccupied n it was a potentially dangerous oversight.

Check for fluid around the wheels, it's gotta be going somewhere. I just had to replace a rear wheel cylendar for the same problem, pretty easy fix if thats the problem and the parts only about $12.
