so i have 265\70r\16s on my truck there not the stock size. my spare is a 235 or 245\70\16 i cant reamber, i got a flat and had the spare on the rear for 2 weeks. i was told that i was lucky that i didnt screw up my rear end. Why would the tire size screw up my rear end? The spare was still smaller than the stock tires witch were 255s. I didnt get into it with the micanic becuse i dont no alot about cars. can any one inlighten me about what the micanic might of ment.

Running different size tires on the same axle will cause undo wear on the spider gears, and if you have limited slip, wear that out. So on a rear wheel drive, you don't want different sizes on the back, with front wheel drive, you don't want it on the front, and with 4 wheel drive, you need them all the same size.

The spare tire is supposed to be used for short distances in an emergency only, and you really should have the same overall diameter on the spare as what you run on the other tires.

look at it like your always in a turn. the littler tire is always spinning just a little faster and as john said puts undue stress on the axle witch = problems
