Thats why you go with a manual . I'm running 33's with 4.10 on a 3.0. I think its a good mix for traffic and freeway driving. Would be nicer to have a lower gear ratio for offroad, but I dont anything but pavement right now. Unless I'm doing over 50 or so, I dont get out of 4th gear

Clanier4x4 is running 3.73's with 33's with a 4L. I just PM'd him a week or so ago asking him how he did with the set up and he said that it was fine, no problems whatsoever. However he does have a manual transy.. so that makes a bit of a difference.

I think either way if I were to get 33's/32's I would get a tuner and some custom tunes to adjust a few things, shift points first and foremost.

Also, note that with larger tires, your speedometers and odometer, and maybe tachometer are off, u will be going faster than what the speedometer reads and u will be traveling more miles than what the odometer is reading, so if you are basing your shifts off of that, then yea they will be off as well.

^True, i run about 5-6 mph faster than what my speedometer reads.

Alright, first off putting 32s on your truck shouldn't rub anything period. My truck came with 31's and 4.10's and i can let the rear end loose, so unless you are wanting granny gear, 4.10's will do fine with 31's 32's and 33's. As far as rubbing, there is a good amount of space between my tires and the front valance, and the fenderwell.

----------

As you can see, no rubbing, not even close, you can see a pretty good sized gap between everything, and i haven't touched my suspension since the day i got the truck.

Same here, im running 33's with 3.73s on a 4.0L, also have a manual transmission. It isnt a huge change from my original 31s.

In your pic, it looks like u removed your rear mud flaps, can't see if u removed your front ones.
With my 99, with a 3"bl, my 33x12.50 rubbed my front valance, had to trim that, and they rub on my mud flaps during a turn with some flex, so when I turn into a raised drive, like at my bank, I hear it rubbing.
Maybe newer rangers have a little different set up, I don't know.

So... I feel ridiculous but here goes nothing. I have a 2.3 5spd and it's due for new tires like a month ago, but I kinda don't want to buy new stock sized tires if I can buy bigger without changing anything. I have put off bigger tires because I always figured with a 2.3 I would have to regear the rear end, get a limited slip and lift it. I REALLY don't think I would have to lift it to go with bigger tires.. within reason, but I am curious about the other points, any ideas or suggestions? thanks guys!

I have 2.3 5 speed 2wd and I'm throwing new tires on at the end of July. I've have heard from multiple people (who have done it) on here that our trucks can clear 30x9.5x15s easy. So, that's what I'm putting on. I've even gotten that confirmed from a few local tire shops too. I have also heard of people even fitting 31x10.5x15 on stock suspension 2wds with minimal to no rubbing, but I feel that it might decrease what little power the Lima four banger has already...if any so I'm not going quite that big...

My rear mudlfaps got ripped off when i was backing up and i hit a pile of plowed snow. The front ones are still on.

Though, what you said about newer rangers might be true.

Nice, then this is what I will be aiming for, hopefully like you by end of July. Just in time for Monsoon season . I think on the stock suspension 30 inch all terrains or maybe even M/T if I can find em would be pretty awesome. Now to fix my freakin exhaust noise! I will be set! Haha.

I can't believe I honestly never thought to air down... And I'm running something like 45psi on those bfgs. But still haven't been stuck. The difference in the sand is incredible though. 2x4 you can do a lot in mud, but not everything. And I guess you can do a little on the sand, but ya can't follow me where I go.

Your speedometer and odometer will be severely off depending on your speed, obviously 0 is 0. On my truck I did a test with a satellite speedometer app, when my truck (3.0 manual, 32"s w open 3:73) reads 40, I'm going 45mph, 50- 56mph and so on and so forth so when the truck says its going 90 you're really going 100. my tach on the other hand is completely unaffected and accurate to the engines rpms.

I don't know why but I don't have any problems with wear because of my torsion bar lift, and the truck goes down the road fine and gets good mpgs with the 3:73s even though it's not especially fast. I have normal little nickel and dime stuff that old 180k mile trucks have anyway. Some of that auto tranny stuff might be just that, your old auto trans is wearing out. Longer/harder shifts are symptoms of being under strain or just being worn out. My friends old mustang with a 130k mile old auto trans had long hard shift from 1st to 2nd just cause it was old and worn out. He never replaced that tranny it got him down the road just fine til he got rid of the car.
