Default 2 wheel driver front wheel bearing packing

If I understand corectly on my 2 wheel driver 03 Ranger, I have inner and outer wheel bearing on the front. To repack them will I need to remove rotors? I believe so... not sure.
Not sure about how to tell if there tight when replacing...

sounds like you understand correctly! the outer bearing will fall out in your hand as you pull on the rotor. the inner bearing may require knocking it out. be easy on it though.

you've got new grease seals for it right?

and there must be a tiny bit of slack/play when reassembling - too tight and they'll burn up

edit: this is assuming nothing has changed from 99 2wd to 03 2wd, but i don't see why it would be much different

Thank you for the confirmation... No seals yet, so I'll pick up a set. I may even go new bearing... My 03 only has 64,000 and change. They should be good yet.

if your gonna be digging in there just replace the bearings...same amount of work and bearings dont cost much anyway

yeah getting new bearings wont hurt. get good ones though - i believe the best are Timken, right?

don't throw the old ones away though. at 64,000 they're probly still good just in case...

have you ever packed bearings?

After cleaning I would just put on some rubber gloves and work in the new grease before reinstalling, That's the old school way...
Am I missing anything?

yeah i learned the hard way about over tightend bears, after about a month one wheel wobbled alittle and for 3 days it mad scary sounds, so dont crank them done, leave them alittle lose.

I tighten them tight to seat them then loosen the nut and torque to 25 in/lbs which I believe the the standard spec.
