Removal of mud flaps?
Getting some Cooper ST tires in the AM. 265 75 16s, up from 245 75 16.
I've read the sticky above about tire fitment, but my question is will I need to remove the factory flaps or do anything else to prevent rub? Will be doing a Tbar crank soon, but can't afford tires and LT alignment at the same time.

Nope you are fine
I would remove them on the account that they are ugly and screw your aerodynamics

I had those same size tires in a 15 in wheel, and unless I was deep in mud or snow in reverse they never rubbed. They are ugly but they protect my paint from all the gravel roads here.

Believe it or not, I like 'em and the nerf bars too. I want to keep the paint intact. Can't wait for new shoes. This Ranger is slowly coming together.

Leave the mudflaps. Have some courtesy, there are other people on the road, and the flaps are there for a purpose.
Also, it can be illegal to drive without them depending on where you go.

It's like window tint, it varies by state, and isn't always enforced.
I have heard lame excuses like "well if a truck is kicking up stuff onto your truck, you're driving too close". That's total BS. Stones and debris on the road can become projectiles and get launched far and fast, even if you're a safe distance behind. Those are the same guys kicking up a spray of water 100 feet behind them when the roads are wet.
Nothing is going to completely eliminate these things, but the mud flaps protect your own vehicle - and everyone elses.
But it seems some people are more concerned with "looking cool" than respecting other drivers....

With a stock wheel, a slightly bigger tire won't effect the mudflaps. It's when you get into aftermarket wheels with small backspaces and bigger tires is when there's the issue of rub. This only concerns the front of course. Rear can just stay there as stock.
