Default General tire questions!

Hey guys. Sorry to stick out like a newbie but to be honest I don't know a whole lot and I have a few questions. I have a 2001 ranger xlt (2wd), and I wanna start doing some stuff to it. It has no lift, and running regular sized tires. Basically I wanna trick it out on a budget. What I was thinking is just putting a 2" front spacer on and getting 30" tires, maybe 31". I want them to look pretty beefy but not awkward. Also would I get any rubbing from the wheel well with that? I'm thinking about general grabber a/t's or toyo open country's. What's your thoughts? You all know more haha
Btw trying to stay away from any suspension/ body lifts! Thanks

I've got an '01 Edge, 2wd, with the 4.0L V6. Ran stock 235/75/15 tires.
Now, I'm running 31" tires on 15x8 rims. No lift.
Maybe a 1.5" rub mark inside fender well is the only problem I had..
Not really noticeable, and maybe 1/32" deep, or less.
But, only if wheels turned full to left.
Looking like gas mileage is gonna be real close to same as stock tires.
I'm gonna guess you should not have any problems. But, others with
better knowledge than me can confirm/deny my thoughts.

Suppose I should have also mentioned that I'm running
Falken Rocky Mountain ATS 31s. To date, I like 'em.
If asked, yeah, I'd recommend them if looking for a good
all purpose tire.
Can take and E-mail more photos of mine, if you'd like to see more.

That's reassuring. Thanks! I think I'll go with 31". How do you guys like the general grabbers? To anyone with experience with them.. And any other tire suggestions?

I don't have personal experience with them, but I know a lot of people that have ran those tires, and heard nothing but good things about them.

I'm running the stock 255/70-16 Goodyear tires, they are an all terrain tires. When the time comes to replace them with the same style and size is there a different brand I should go with? Or should I stick with the OEM Goodyear tires? (Full description is Goodyear Wrangler RT/S.)

Talk about just jumping in someone else thread lol but its alright, I can tell your new.

It really just depends on what you want, there is no reason to go back with those tires IMO. If don't want some aggressive and just want more of a highway tire, I still wouldn't go back with those, there are much better tires for the money. But beens your 4x4 I would atleast go with an all terrain tire and I mean a real AT, what you have stock is nowhere what I would consider a good AT tire.

As far as size you can go a little bit bigger if you want especially if you do the pre key mod to yours. Im sure you don't know what that is, but try using the search function, that will help answer alot of beginnner questions you have.

Ha your fine, I could tell you were so it was more of a friendly hounding.

But honestly IMO for the money, how long they last, quality, I feel like you cant beat BFG AT KO's. I have them, they are a 50,000 to 70,000 mile tire, and mine even in 32x11.5 balanced out with hardly any weight at all. Mine also ride like glass, even better than my stock goodyear radial bullshit that was on there.

If you want something similar in looks and cheaper you could go with the general grabber at2's which have a very similar tread pattern. But i doubt they will last as long, but I have never had a set of them so I cant really say about their build quality.

One more question! How will my mileage change if I bump up to a 32" tire from stock?

ah depends, what gears do you have stock?

Im going to assume you probably have 3.55 or 3.73 which it will probably drop down to the 15 range depending on how much city and highway you do.

It's only gettin about 15 I'd say right now.. I can calculate it but it's my dads old truck he's giving to me since I turn 16 at the end of this month. So I haven't even had to worry about the mileage yet.
