You can use a tubing bender or just bend with your hands as long as you don't kink them. I did all my brake lines last fall. I did the RAB's bypass too.

Most auto parts stores sell tubing benders for pretty cheap. Harbor Freight sells a real nice one with a lever for pretty cheap. From personal experience, get a tubing cutter and a double flaring kit too. The auto parts stores don't have a line with the right end for the tank side of the line. You will need to cut off the end of the old line to reuse it on the new one. I ended up replacing every line but the one between the tank and the frame. Not including tools, it cost me about $70.

The kit should bulge the line out and back in if you put the appropriate sized button on the end of the line. It might take you a try or two to get the length sticking out of the flaring bar right. It won't flare the end all the way in, only bend the line in enough to allow the fitting you will thread the line into the complete the bend and seal by compression.

When you double flare a line, the tool will just flare the line out and the button will flare the end in so it will look like a garlic bulb (sort of).

Inside the female end of the fitting is a conical tip that will bend the "bulb" the rest of the way in and complete the seal.

From what it sounds like, you either aren't using a button or you are getting the length wrong.

I just finished replacing the brake lines in the 94 Ranger. I borrowed my BIL's double flare tool. I followed the directions that were on the inside of the box. The brake lines from Advanced Auto will bend. They would be useless if they didn't.

It leaks? are you sure it is not operator/ equipment miss-match? As I see it you can be hurt or hurt others with your actions, replace all lines and either pay to have it done or buy the pre-made lines.
