Default Spare Tire Woes

Went to use the spare on my recently purchased '99 Ranger and guess what? Couldn't get the access hole lock off. I drilled it out and then inserted the tool that comes with the jack and wasn't able to turn it to lower the spare tire. Maybe this is a common problem, and someone has a fix for this that doesn't involve grinding the flanges off the retainer hub. Thanks for any help on this. Dan

I have a temporary spare, let them steal it!! POS firestone worthless grumble grumble...

On topic: Do you have pics so we can see what you are talking about? I have the drop down rack on mine that just uses a bolt but I have the one you insert the tool in on my Sonoma. The are probably similar.

ya, the winch that holds up the tire can be quite temperamental. it can get tough to get the tool to fit in the slot,

you'd have to be Insane to actually think someone would want to steal a factory spare tire from a ford Ranger. it isn't even the same size as the stock tires (my spare was a 235, the factory tires 245) also it has a "donut looking" rim, so it's worthless on the street.

I have heard of people stealing some pretty stupid stuff.

If it can be taken people will take it even if it is worthless. They get a thrill out of it just cause they know it will piss you off

Default I know your pain....

I also have a recently purchased '99 ranger and while reading the manual I discovered that a long key, yes a key, not the lowering tool, but a actual key is needed to gain access to the hole to lower the spare. I sure the hell didn't get any long key from the seller. I think I'll just ask the ford service dept near my home to remove it and toss the damn lock away.

Did a litle research..........http://www.lockworld.com/specials2.htm
