Absolutely hated my Spare tire storage winch. Took 3 days to get it off. The truck is 10 years old, and putting the removal tool into the slot and turning did nothing but lower it half an inch. We even took an impact wrench to it and only got another half inch, not enough to remove the winch. Ended up jacking the rear of the truck and used a pneumatic cutter to cut through the bracket. Now that thats done, making a spare tire mount for the bed.

Couldn't imagine having a pneumatic cutter on the side of a freeway with a flat.

my 99 has one of those locks covering the whole, there's a big friggin key for it, on my 98 the previous owner had broken the end of the tool off, so i got hammer and jammed it into the winch n order to get the spare out, on my 99 i felt like i was about to break the tool because the previous owner had decided to really torque that winch down once the tire was all the way up there, unnecesary, once its up to the frame it stays there, no need to tighten anything
