You don't have to. I have 4.10's and 33's and it's not really that much difference. You might feel it on hills. Then again, I have a 4.0... you have a 3.0.

i had the same set up but ran 32s. it sucked on any type of uphill, and my gas mileage blew in the city as well. now that i have 33s, i wouldn't even think about it. re-gearing was the best thing i ever did

Regear. Even with the 4.0 and 35's, I'm still a sumbitch up the hills.

Ya fuel mileage will suck and hills will kill ya.

If you could find a explorer axle with 4.10 I would go that route. So you would also get rear disc brakes.

i have 32's with 3.73 and a 3.0 5-speed. Let me tell you they suck! at first i didn't really notice it but after a week of having them on i am a mule! When i floor it it makes a lot of sound but wont go anywhere. And with the a/c on its also hard. But for dd its not like omg i can't go it still goes when you need it but my mpg went way down. But it was bad from the start anyways so i don't care. But with 33's i can't image it being any better. So moral of the story is yes i can live with it its not like i can't go at all it just takes more gas to go and if i ever had a chance to get a 4.10 rear end i would jump on it but as for now its no big deal. Because this truck wasn't made for the quarter mile. hope this helps

honestly it would be cheaper for you to swap to an exploder axle that has 4.10s and youd gain rear discs

It was gonna cost me 1K for my 4.10 gears. The Yukon gears were only gonna be like 350 the rest was labor and misc. things.

I found a FX4 Level II axle with 6K miles for 500 dollars in a salvage yard. using www.car-part.com

3.0 with Auto trans and 33" should have 4:56 gears
3.0 with Manual will be fine with 4:10

You will lose bottom end torque if you plan to run 33" with your 3.0, if you have an automatic, but it won't be horrible!

you can get away with 4.10's but you wont be happy, especially with the 3.slow. I wouldnt consider running any less than 4.56's
