Default 33" tire question

i have a 2003 ford ranger edge 2wd reg cab with 4:10 gears getting about 17mpg.i have 31X10.5r15s on there now, but i want to run 33s. will my gears support it? how bad will it hurt my gas mileage? what would i have to change the gears to so i can get about the same mpg or better?

Yeah you could swap out ur gears to like the 4.55 range ( i dont know the exact ratio) and that would help the gas milage drop a bit but the best solution to keeping your gas milage is not to put bigger tires on it. Its a choice bigger tires vs mpg you pick one you lose the other. Sure you can regear it to minimze the loss but as soon as you go bigger you will start getting worse milage.

i dont run 33's, but i have 4.10 to with same size tire and i get roughly 16mpgs, i hear from quite a few guys that have same gears with 33's that their gas milage improved because the 4.10 runs best on 33's.... thats what ive heard and seen before, im no expert tho, but id look more into it

Your mileage will drop. 4.56 is ideal ratio with 33's

since im trying to run 33s, i would have to swap gears to 4.56 correct? i would like to run wider tires . will the 4.56 gears be just fine? and another question to piggy back off the wider tires. will putting wide 33s on my edge put too much strain on my wheel bearings? will i need a hub extender? thanks for all of the help so far.

I am running 285/75R16's and I haven't put a tuner on it so it thinks I'm on the tires from factory. And I'm getting 14mpg city and 16mpg highway.
