ranger or f150 with 33s, help please.
hey guys im almost 17 and im wondering which truck i should get. you guys have way more experience with mud tires on your trucks and your gas mileage. i want the truck with better gas mileage over everything. i wont be towing anything, just mudding once in awhile like every teenager does, you know go back in the woods to the party spot. but, im wondering which would be better to get. either a ranger with a 3 inch body lift and 33s, or just an f150 with no lift and 33s. which will get better gas mileage with 33s? if the f150 will get better, then its obviously smarter to get the bigger truck. thanks

agreed. bigger tires equals less MPG either way.

get a ranger. it will be easier learning/starting out in a smaller truck. And if your looking for an f-150 that has a 302/351, they get shit for mileage. Maybe 15 or so. I have been knocking down 18 in my 01. I think that the newer f-150's with the 4.6/5.4 prolly do better than the 5.0/5.8

there isnt much of a difference, i'd go with the ranger for mpg, lower maintenance, and cheaper insurance, plus they're light trucks so they perform better in certain off-road situations so im told.

Re: ranger or f150 with 33s, help please.
so what motor and year of each truck would you be trying to buy? Also would you be getting a 4x4? If you are comparing a Ranger, 4x4, V6 4.0L with a F150, 4x4, V8 5.4L then I can offer a comment. I have a 2006 F150, 5.4L, 4x4 with 285/70R17 tires and I have a 2001 Ranger, 4.0L, 4x4 with 285/75R16 tires. I would say that the gas mileage is about the same as far as driving around town and highway driving with no towing and nothing being hauled. When you put a load on each truck, the F150 gets better mileage at that point. Also remember that the 33's on the Ranger are big tires for that truck, the 33's on the F150 are not big at all for that truck. So as far as wear and tear, the Ranger will likely have more wear than the F150 given the same tire size.
2001 Ranger 4x4 with 33's (285/75R16):
2006 F150 with 33's (285/70R17):
