is it the flat colors? or do they have clear coat in it? or do i have to get that to? and what bout getting worn in the cracks? and i only need to do the front of the rim right? and how do i get the rust spots and minor dings our? rust is just from scratches. nothing serious.

The DupliColor clear coat is great stuff. I use if for lots off stuff, most recently my tonneau cover. Adds shine plus an extra layer of protection for the paint.

Sure, why not? You can use it on just about anything. I've even used it on wood before.
In the case of my tonneau, it was sanded, primed, and painted first.

I painted these with dupli color performance wheel coating-

Here is what I did-
washed throughly with soap and water
Sanded with 400 grit sandpaper
used a duplicolor prep wipe
3 layers of black
3 layers of clear

I would say it looks about 7/10. There are a few spots where the paint didn't like the rim or I put it on too heavy or something. They are not bad and only noticable to touch.

The most important part is to sand alot! I spent 2 hours sanding and I wished I had spent more time on it.

As for clear coat- The black dries to a satin finish. So the clear coat gives it a gloss finish.

I can tell it's not perfect, if you have access to a spray gun and have the skill, I would suggest using it instead.
