Default The Plan for my 98

Hey Everybody!

I am new here, and unfortunately haven't posted anything as of yet.

I will start off with some background information of myself and my truck..

I am a 16 year old kid living in Regina, Canada. I am in grade 11 here. I have a part time job as a sales associate at Western Cycle Source for Sports (hockey, bikes, baseball, lacrosse etc..) I work about 25 hours a week during school weeks, and close to 40 hours when off school. I make $10.50 an hour, so I have a decent income.

My truck is a black 1998 Ranger Xlt. It is 2wd. It has an extended cab. Regular box length. Currently the truck is bone stock as I only bought it a year ago. And I have moved in that year, no time to do much other than a new stereo and subs which I taught myself how to install.

I know that any thread is worthless without pics, so I will post some up within the next day or so..

Now, onto my plans...

I was originally planning on doing a 4/5 drop on it and getting some 20" wheels. Now that I have driven through a winter, and seen the snow banks, I have decided that even if it is only a 2wd, I'm gonna raise it.

Being a student, I do not have thousands of dollars to sink into it (yet, hopefully one day) so I am looking at a 3" Body Lift. I have spent days reading through the forums here, and at RPS, and various other Google searches, and I feel that I have landed on the Performance Accessories kit. I am looking at doing the install with my stepdad, so I am guessing after taxes I am looking at about $300.

I also want new wheels. Now for some reason I cannot quite get my head around how to size and pick wheels. I also do not want to drop 3 whole paychecks on them. The wheels I am currently looking at are one of the following...

1. 17" Moto Metal 955 Black with 33x12.5x17 Nitto Mud Grappler tires.
2. 18" XD 797 Spy Chrome with 33x12.5x18 Nitto Mud Grappler tires.
3. 18" Moto Metal 909 Rims with 33x12.5x18 Nitto Mud Grappler tires
4. 17" Fuel Boost Rims with 33x12.5x17 Nitto Mud Grappler tires

Can I get some feedback, sugestions, opinions, on the rims and tires? Thank you kindly in advacnce.

I am also planning on getting my windows tinted. 5% on the back and sides, 35% on the driver/passenger.

I am also CONSIDERING (feedback please) getting the following in due time...

1. APS polished stainless steel Grill Gaurd
2. APS polished stainless steel nerf bars
3. Putco SSR bedrails
4. Bak ProCap ABS bed rail cap

Well, there is my life story, sorry about the lengthyness of it.

i think half the thread belongs in the intro section.

the main question is why you wanna put a mud terrain on a 2wd truck. i ran bfg mud terrain km1's until they wore out only because i got them insanely cheap. what a waste. for the parts of the year when there's no snow on the ground, the mud terrain tires will be pointless and make a lot of noise driving down the road, especially when they wear down more. you should look into a limited slip diff or a locker to help get traction too, an open diff will only let one wheel spin if you get stuck, and that just sucks no matter who you are.

The reason for the Mud tires is honestly as simple as this...

I know that its a 2wd, but hey, Im 16, I think they look cool, and Im sure I will regret them after two days of driving... but common, they look cool haha

But honestly, are they going to be that awful? What else would you guys recommend?

So, since I have tried messing around in deep snow once, and tried in mud once, and didn't get the joy I thought i would out of it, I don't plan on doing it. The only real kinda off roading I plan on is getting to the mountain bike trails. Which in Saskatchewan is through a feild, and a dirt road, nothing extreme... (my buddies sunfire can do it) So, since I obviously do not need a mud tire (even though they look so damn cool), what would you good folks suggest? Tires and Wheels. Im here t learn from the wise men of Rangers!

Thanks again

So BFG A/Ts. I like the way they look still.

Now how do I go about sizing and everything?

I would like the wheels and tires to stick out past the body a tad. I really like the look of that.

Sorry about me being so, naive. Im trying to learn..

What motor does your truck have? By putting bigger tires on it your truck will need a little more boot to get her going at first so it could eventually wear out gears or rear end .....

i ran some american prospectors on my 2wd ranger. Theyre really affordable and do really good in the snow... i ran them when i lived in Montana. I bought them for 500 brand new.. installation included and got about 45,000 out of them. Highly recommend that tire.

Can I please get some more advice and suggestions?
