Default Retreads. some facts

Here are some facts i pulled from the DOT report about retreads dated September 3, 2009

*this is just to better inform people of the current status of Retread tires, not influence any decisions

Myth: Retreads are responsible for most of the road alligators (tire peices) on the highways.
Fact: A survey concluded that the number of retread tire fragments found on highways was proportional to the number of retread tires in service vs regular tires.
-Road hazards account for 38% of retread failures and 36% of regular tire failures
-Maintenance and operational issues account for 32% of retread failures
-Manufacture failures account for only 16%
-Retread tires save truckers an estimated $3 Billion/ Year
-It takes 22 gallons of oil to make a new tire; it takes 7 gallons of oil to make a Retread
-Retread tires are the tire of choice for the majority of major trucking operations who operate on a schedule, carry valuable cargo,
-Retread tires are used on both commercial and military jets
-Poastal service utilizes retread tires
-Half of the replacement tires purchased by truckers are retread tires.

there is more to the report so here it is:
Retread Tires

again this is just intended to inform people of Retread tires

Great post. I have always wondered about retreads and if they were any good.

I dont think I would ever buy them for my Ranger but maybe something else if I need it cheap.

I know they are huge in the trucking industry a new semi tire can cost 400 dollars

I have heard truckers at work talk about getting a retread for 150-200 dollars
