I've got a set of studded snow tires for my Chevy (Cooper Discoverer M+S) and I only needed to use 4WD in some of my hunting areas this last season. Hell, I didn't even have any weight in the back, really (other then some fire wood once, that was it, lol). Then again, my commute to work is pretty much flat, and the only hill I had to go over was the one in my driveway.

They are great tires, though. I plan on getting the same ones for the Ranger eventually.

I bought a pair of Kelly Springfield Snowtrakker ST/2 snow tires that I put on the rear of my truck since I have a 4X2, and I just run my Bridgestone Dueler APT III's in the front. With the Snowtrakker ST/2's on the rear axle of my ranger and about 420lbs of sand in the back, I can make it up my 10% grade driveway in 4" of snow. The same day my buddy came over with his F-350 w/ the V-10 Trition in it, and he had to attempt getting up the driveway twice, and on the second time he decide that he had to use his 4X4 to get up the driveway. I would "HIGHLY" recommend a pair of snow tires at least for the rear axle if they have a 2WD Ranger, especially if they live in WI, like I do.

Kuhmo Mohave AT KL-63

only like $100 a tire at Discount Tire and they have the severe snow mark so i think theyll do good. plus they had good reviews.
