Default wrangler radial 235 mpg problems

I just replaced my old tires they were worn out 225s that were more of a car style tire with wrangler radial 235s. So far I am not at all pleased. I had an instant loss od acceleration and mpg decrease. Should this be expected with such a modest increase in size or is it more because of the poor design or the wranglers?

I didn't realize they were a bargain basement tire when I bought them. They came from a tire shop owned by my dads friend and the manager told me they were a great tire that he could get me a good priice on. Come to find out I could've got them 50 bucks cheaper at wal mart or the same price at many other tire stores.

I'm guessing that these are 235/75R15 tires you purchased and went up from a 225/75R16. The acceleration loss is due to the increase in tire height and width and due to the weight difference. Also with the change in pattern to a more aggressive tread design you now have more rolling resistance. It all doesnt seem much but it all adds up. With out specifics on what the MPG was and now is then I cant say if it is about right or not but a small loss in both areas should be expected.

The loss in acceleration is drastic. I cannot go more than 80mph now. And this is on flat roads. Also it was a 225/75/15 to a 235/75/15. Ill know more about mpg after they are on a little longer

I wouldn't think that small of tire difference would have devastating effects on fuel mileage. But you do have a 4 banger. My dad went from 205 to 235 BFG's and took a big hit on fuel mileage, he dont even run 5th gear cause the motor bogs. Were putting in 4.10 gears. If you had a 3.0/4.0 you most likely would not notice any change.

you dont by chance have your parking break on do ya...? even just a little...?

Yeah, I have a 4cyl. I'm probably gonna go try to exchange the tires if I can

I have those wrangler tires on my 4.0 liter and I get 20 MPG on the highway..The feel is not too crisp..I am thinking that the sidewalls are super soft..I won't be buying another set.
