Whatever the side wall says. Make sure you do it when it's cold. Your ride quality will go right down the tubes though. Expect more wheel hop too because the tires will have less give.

not to sound like a dick..but it says on the tires...they usually state the max psi. i try to keep it a few psi under that.

and get a digital psi reader, they're more accurate then the ones at the gas station.

Is the objective to save gas or save money? Max PSI on the tires will save gas but wear tires... unsure if you'll actually save enough money on gas to offset the extra tire wear. Consumers guide did a test with a tire under inflated by 10psi diff in mileage was 1mpg.

Driving style is most important... do a Google search on hypermiling and hypermiling techniques. Hypermilers are a very dedicated crazy group

The Conti's are 44 PSI max cold pressure. I run mine at 42 PSI. Tire wear is not increased at 42 PSI, but decreased as compared to 35 PSI. Lower pressures will soften the ride a tiny bit, but at the cost of increased wear and small loss of mileage.

I am more confused since I visited this thread. I like a firmer ride, and therefore inflate my tires more than I should evidently. My stock Ranger with 225/70R/15 Continental's Max PSI is 44, yet the door jam says 30. I usually like to fill between 37/39 lbs., and I am careful in summer since I know tires expand.

I was told at two different oil change places that "the pressure they inflate to is 35" to prevent overfilling and mistakes, etc.

On a sidenote, I took my wife's Edge in for an oil change recently, and the guy lectured me because I filled them "too much", eventhough I was under what the tire said. I think I had filled the tires to 40 lbs and the Max PSI was 44.

So, I am O.K. Why is there a big difference between the door jamb and the tire? I know that different tires can be used on different vehicles

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

i would like to know where you get your information from? i work at a tire shop and lower psi will not give you shitty wear, unless you have extremely low pressure like 20 psi.

if you guys would read the tire, 44 is for the max load of the tire, are you hauling 4-6000 lbs? probly not go by what the door jam tells you, its in there because its states the best pressure for mpg and the best ride.

not trying to sound like a dick but thats why its in the door jam unless your hauling the max load
