Rear Wheel Play?

So I recently inherited a 2001 Mazda B4000 truck and I am currently trying to rehab it. So far I have replaced the front pads and rotors, replaced an ABS sensor, and the EGR DP sensor. But the one thing I can't seem to fix is a rumbling noise that is present anytime the truck is moving. I have already checked the front bearings, they seem good. My question is on the rear wheels is it normal to have some in and out play of the wheels, both wheels slide in and out when I pull or push on them, while jacked up.

Our axles are c-clip axles and will have some play, 1/4" or less is typical. As long as the axle doesn't come all the way out the c-clip is still in place and you're good to go. Odds are you have a limited slip differential and as the clutches wear out the amount of in and out play can increase.

Thanks for the info, I guess I'm gonna have to jack up the rear and start her up and try to pin point the source.

I always say an 1/8" or less...1/4" is quite a bit ___ <---that much....is a lot

So I put the truck up on jack stands, all 4 tires off the ground, had the wife put it in 4WD and step on the gas. But much to my surprise NO noise!!! So what I got is a rumbling noise I can feel through the floor anytime the truck is moving but not when its up on jack stands. Any ideas?

I don't know anything about the history of this truck,but I did notice that the passenger side wheel hub had been replaced.

does it have beefy tires or anything like that? if the tires arent wearing right it can cause vibration, also put the truck in park or in gear and chalk the wheel then clim under it and wiggle the driveline see if the u-joint is worn out, that can make the noise and cause vibrations. easy and cheap fix too!

The tires are standard size for the truck, goodyear wrangler rt/s
