Default CHROME-CLAD ranger wheels

So I am sick and tired of these wheel covers. If anybody has ever attempted removing the covers, please tell me that a decent black/paintable wheel lies underneath. My research on this topic has yielded nothing substantial, as most people like this option, or have learned to deal with it.

This topic has been discussed before, but I didn't want to hijack/bump some other guy's thread.

Thanks in advance,
--Alex

its just gonna be a black steel wheel underneath like your spare, your better off leaving it alone or buying aftermarket wheels

I like chrome wheels, especially the factory ones. But I agree, the chrome with your blue just doesn't look right to me.

The wheels on my F100 have factory chrome skins on them. I'd rather have the full chrome wheels. If you pull your center cap off, you should see the black base of the wheel, and maybe some tabs from the chrome skins, if they're anything like the wheels on my F100 are. You can probably bend these up and pull the cover off. As far as it staying intact, good luck.

I don't mind if the covers get a little jacked up, as long as the wheel underneath is decent. From my research, it seems that the covers are glued onto the rim, thus making re-installation nearly impossible

Could very well be. I've picked at the ones on the F100 before, and they're on pretty tight.

I thought they are either chrome or painted, and that an after market company makes the slip on chrome cover.. IDK? should be able to tell by removing the center cap..

Man! How I would love for somebody to take one for the team, and just try to peel/break/smash off the cover, possibly on an old wheel...

Has anyone tried removing those chrome wheel skins? I do like the look of the painted steel wheels. The skins look nice but I'm over 55 and it's too much bling.

And why ain't my picture showing up? DANG computers!

This is what happened when I took the chrome cover off. Most of the white you see is glue or some type of reservoir. The orange is obviously rust. It's not easy to get off. I had to pry it with a screw driver and hammer. The cover is completely ruined.
Huge mistake.
