Default Please recommend snow tires for 2010 4x4

I have a completely stock 2010 4x4 4-door, and will be doing a LOT of mountain driving this winter in Colorado, which I have never had to deal with before.
Is there a good brand of snow tire that is recommended for the Ranger?

Also, where is a good source to buy them?

Thanks,

Those hankook winter Pikes I hear are pretty good. Just remember you'll want a skinnier tire to cut thru the snow, wider tires will have a tendancey to float on the snow.

I would go a size smaller on the width, keep the height or even go a little taller than stock.

Now, I had some of the discount tire brand winter tires, snowtrekkers I think they are called, I had them on my 2wd ranger and they worked out very well, but I also am a seasoned winter driver, so for someone new to it I would get a better winter tire.

Ask them about Siping, it really helps improve traction.

And remember, winter tires are softer rubber so they may feel squishy but this will be normal.

Thanks for that suggestion. Those seem very reasonably priced.

I have 255/70-16 and I didn't see any snow tires on their site...am I just missing something?

goodyear duratracs or bfg at's or mt's that is if your just wanting a regular style tire, not a tire strictly for snow purposes. But if your going to be spend alot of time up in the snow but on the road some to id look into an MT. If you wont be into much deep snow, than id stick to a good AT like the firestone at or the bfg like I listed. Now if your going to have a good mix of road, ice, and deep snow than id go with the goodyear duratracs which is what im going to be running ina few weeks, mine acourse will be 33's but you get the idea.

I've driven mine through the snow and icy roads with great results - Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo II - FTW!

My Dad gave me a set of almost new Pro-Comp All Terrains (265/75R16) last month. He used them as snow tires on his Sierra, but they wouldn't fit his newer GMC (16") so they were an early Christmas present to me... Any how I was shocked at how well they worked in the snow... when breaking, it almost feels like I'm on pavement... It's hard to get the abs to kick in...

I Second hankook! (I work at a tire shop lol)
The RW-11's are awesome. NEVER have I had studs that were this quiet. I'm running them on the back only and I siped my toyo at's on the front. Thing grips like no other. Reason for only two is we have very mild winters but I drive a curby road that occasionally has random ice patches so all I really wanted was to stop the back end from washing out.

If you don't get ice real bad or studs aren't legal(still legal in oregon for now)
I would HIGHLY recommend the wild country xtx. Its a snow/ice rated all terrain and has a lot more siping than 90% of the tires out there. Once I lift my truck I am running these for sure. Dean(maker of the wild countries) makes some seriously good tires and they've been around FOREVER haha.

Mt's.....if you ONLY get snow. On ice they are about as useless as a poopy flavored lollipop. Lol.

I saw you said you have 255/70's stock. 245/75's might be alittle better route for the snow. People around here have crammed 235/85's but they're 10 ply only.

Anywhoo I'm ramblin haha. Hope ya find something! And drive safe

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I went with the Hankook w/ studs for $113 a tire @ Discount tire. I also went with the 255 instead of 245 since the price difference was $25 per tire. I hope that was a good enough decision.

I appreciate the advice.

Nice choice

Price difference I'm not too shocked haha. 245's are WAY more common

If it's not too much to ask i'd like to hear your conclusions as far as performance goes!

I went with a set of four studded General Altimax Arctic 245/75-16 on my FX4. 235/75-16 was an option too (my stock tire size is 255/70-16).

I can't wait until it snows down here. I have my new Hankook winter i pikes tires on my truck and love them! It hasn't even snowed yet and they are great! Cheap too; I got a set of four for under 400.

Had them installed @ Discount Tire tonight...drives the same as far as I can tell.....heater on and radio you can't hear the studs....windows down sounds like you are on gravel.
I got the warranty they offer because I only have 9k miles on my truck, so I probably have the tires for 7 seasons at least.
