Re: Please recommend snow tires for 2010 4x4
It's not all about the tire depth....otherwise, a brand new set of BFG AT T/A KO, an all terrain tire that has the severe snow symbol, would have been fine on my Mazda RWD truck. They were anything but. After a couple of winters with the BFG AT, I switched to a set of studded Arctic Claws.
Regular all season or all terrain tires become hard at colder temperatures. True winter tires use a softer rubber compound than all season or all terrain tires. The temperature to switch over to winter tires is recognized at 7 deg C and below (agreed to by many tire experts and tire companies).
You might be fine with your stock tires. It depends on how comfortable you are with them in winter driving conditions.
When I bought my FX4 almost exactly one year ago, I thought for sure that I was going to put on studded winter tires right away. It wasn't easy finding the winter tires that I had wanted. TPMS sensors was an issue (found out later that it wasn't mandatory). However, with the mild winter, I had decided to leave my stock tires on. Note all my driving for the rest of winter was inside the city once I got the new truck home (dealer was 300-350 km away).
