Default How stretched will 205's be on a 17x8 rim?

I got some new wheels today and I got 2 brand new bridgestone 205/50ZR17s with them. Will they look stupidly stretched? Any pictures of anyone who is running this size? Thanks in advance for the help.

I was gonna say that it should be fine. Searched and found this chart. Read the info above it...then look at the chart.

http://customwheelsmarket.com/rimwheelwidth1.html

So I wouldn't want to responsible for saying those tires on 8"wide rims are OK. I was thinking 225 would be preferable...not the recommended minimum width!
That difference of 205 vs 225 is considerable.....20mm's.

Why do you need pictures? I'm asking if anyone has that size mounted on an 8" rim because I DONT.

I have wheels with 235/55s and two extra 205/50s.

Well I'm gonna have them installed by a shop so they can get them on however they can. I'd like to run those tires too to minimize rubbing when I lower it.

Well if they know what they are doing (the shop) they should know if the size of the tires vs rim width is dangerous or not. And if you plan on major lowering maybe in the end it is a good choice (what you have).

I'm gonna go 4/5 and maybe 5/7 down the line a little.

I don't want to do any trimming at all. So a smaller tire up front will be optimal that way iit doesnt affect my speedo.

My ex-wife's Mazda3 runs 205/50s on a 17X7.5, they work pretty good, but when I got my 17X8 Cobras, they had 205/40s on them and they were too stretched, and rode funny.

So it depends a little bit on the aspect ratio, the lower the ratio, the wider you need to go to avoid stretching. A 205 is only 8" wide at its widest point, so on a 8" rim, the lip of the wheel will be sticking out past the sidewall. I would think a 215(8.5") would be a minimum width for a 8" rim, and would prefer a 225(9"). Personally, I ran 235/55s on my 17X8s and didn't have any issues with rubbing on the fender lip, only on the bottom side of the inner fender, and a narrower tire won't help that. Also note, the offset of your wheels will make more difference than the width of the tire when it comes to avoiding rubbing, and your wheels have quite a bit of offset, so I wouldn't go overboard with skinny tires, and see where you sit once you get down there.

I wouldn't do it. If the tire bead seal fails when cornering you'll be lucky to have only a wrecked rim and tire. The mismatch is significant..and a 7.5 rim is still significantly less wide than a 8.

You'll be fine.. i ran a 205/50/r16 on my rx7. had a 16x8 rim xxr 002's. A 215 is perfect fit. It is stretched but i'd like to find someone that would notice if you didn't point it out. AE86 guys run 185's on 8in, thats a stretch
