Default Ford: P235/75R15 all season Unacceptable for 1997??

Hello, I am new to this place, has some great info.
Anyway, We got a 1997 XL super cab Ranger for our son a few months ago and it needs new tires. On it now are 265/75R15. All terrain. The sticker on the door list 265/75R15. Was thinking of going to a smaller 235/75R15 all season tire. Little if any off road driving, mainly driving to school.
I have called a couple Ford dealers and about 5 tire stores and get different answers as what to put on it. some say put what the sticker says and some same about any 15 inch tire, most online tire sites have P215/75R or P235/75R listed for tire options for this vehicle

I checked the owners manual and it says "all Season" tires are unacceptable. Only use "All Terrain" tires
I am pretty sure I see a lot of Rangers with All season tires on them. What is the reason they are Unacceptable? Are All season tires ok to use? Do any other year Ranger owners manuals say "All season" tires are unacceptable? Thanks for any help

welcome to the forum! I'd say first to run the vin number - i believe that should solve the question of what your truck came with from the factory. I am kinda surprised that the door sticker says 265 width tires. between 205 and 235 seems more appropriate.

as far as the type of tire, it's whatever you want to use the truck for... not sure why it says they are unacceptable.. but i'd love to know why as well!

the problem with that truck is it is light in the back end. i am from canada and i run snow tire 4 months dec to march and all seasons the rest of the year. if you are going off road then all terrains would be a better choice. i carry 300 pounds extra weight in the winter for snow traction.

i chunk some weight back there too, certainly helps with our typical snow-icings!
