Default 2010 Ranger tire size question........

I am buying winter tires and rims. Will it cause any problems with anti-lok brakes and elctronic traction control etc. if I go to a slightly larger size? Factory tire size is 225/70/15 and I am looking at a set of 235/75/15 which are taller. Thanks, Dave

235/75-15 are 5.4% larger than 225/70-15. A rule of thumb for most vehicles is 3% max. Not sure why you are planning to go wider for winter tires? Most people will want to go narrower to cut thru the snow easier and also more pounds per contact area.

Personally, I went with 245/75-16 on my studded General Altimax Arctic winter tires for a FX4 (255/70-16 is stock).

I have these for winter. They work great and are not expensive. You can get them in your stock 225/70 R15 size.

Notice the Weather-masters are for passenger cars, going by the tab up top. The Discoverer M+S is for light trucks...but isn't available in 225/70 R15. The Weather-masters are way better than the Goodyears my Edge came with and about half the money.

DavidY.....not that it matters now as I decided no to take these but they were "75" profile which is narrower than the "70" profile that came on it. I am still looking.

75 is the aspect ratio which relates a tire's width to the height of it's sidewall....a 75 has more sidewall than a 70 (taller sidewalls typically provide a softer ride, but won't handle as well). The first number is a tire's width in millimetres. For winter tires, you should stick with the stock width of 225 or go down to 215. A 235 tire is 10mm wider than stock.

In winter or slick conditions, I typically turn AdvanceTrac off. It's more predictable that way IMO.
