today i got some snow tires from a junkyard. they have holes for studs, but didn't come with any. after spending a half hour looking into stud installation, i know that i need a stud gun to install them properly. clearly i don't want to go buy a stud gun. so now i am wondering, where can i i get size 13 tire studs and where can i have them installed? how much it will cost would be a good thing to know too, thanks.

we charge like $10/tire at my work. but we only stud new tires...

if they're pre drilled and you can find the studs you could manage to hammer them in. just use some car wash soap and a dead blow. i'd suggest doing it when they are mounted and aired up though. pita to do it off the wheels

i did some more research, and i guess you cant stud a tire that's been driven on because sand and small rocks clog up the holes and prevent the studs from seating correctly. this makes perfect sense.
so if i only have one set of studded tires, should i put them on the front or the back? my first thought was to put them on the back because those are the drive wheels and they need the traction so i dont get stuck. but then i realized that if the front tires lack traction than i wont be able to steer or stop. i'd rather be stuck than dead. any input? maybe i put the non-studs on the back and just use snow chains on the really bad days?

they will grab more on the front true. but not in a good way lol. when turning you will get traction all the sudden in the front and lose control. no bueno lol

i would get fired for putting two snow tires on the front

Deffinatly back. Most people around here only put snows in the back of a RWD. But i had 4 studded snows on my probe, man did that car kick ass in the snow. It was unstopable in anything under 6"
