Default tire size opinion

hey guys, i was wondering what size tires would be good for my truck. i've got a 92 xlt, 2wd with 205/75R14 tires on right now. it has stock suspension and everything, idk if that matters. I was thinking on putting 235's on them, but i dont know if theyll fit. im not looking for anything really extreme, just something bigger. im open to all opinions! thanks

Isn't 235 just the width? I would think they would fit.

Its a little more complicated than that...

"Not my words"
The first three numbers in a typical size (225/45R17) are the tire's indicated section width in millimeters, measured from sidewall to sidewall. If you are familiar with measurements in inches, the section width in millimeters can be converted into inches by dividing it by 25.4. For example:
225mm / 25.4 = 8.86"
The second pair of numbers (225/45R17) is the tire's aspect ratio or profile. This is a ratio of sidewall height to section width. The section height's measurement can be calculated by multiplying the section width by the aspect ratio. The answer will be the height of one sidewall. For example:
225mm x 0.45 = 101.3mm
8.86" x 0.45 = 3.99"
The last number (225/45R17) is the diameter of the wheel in inches.

Basically the numbers are not independent.

I doubt you will have any trouble with the 235's tho still a pretty small tire IMO.

No problem. I looked on tirerack for ya and saw that they have an OEM size of 225/70/14 listed for your vehicle. With that being said I am almost positive you could fit a 235 no problem. Check around the forum some more tho I am sure somebody with your body style will have some more input.

I don't think 14" tires go any bigger than 225. You would have to get 15" rims to go any bigger. There is something like 5 or 6 tires available in 225/70R14. That is what is on my truck from the factory (obviously, not the original tires).

I did a quick look for 235s on Cooper's web site and on Tire Rack and they don't have any that size.

O damn that's true. I am not used to anybody talking 14's. Looks like your options will be limited unless you get creative with some wheels.
