Re: 265/70R16 vs. 265/75R16. Pics???
This was a great thread because I have also been trying to make up my mind on 265/70/16 vs. 265/75/16 tires, I have to say that I like the 265/70/16 size better.

Re: 265/70R16 vs. 265/75R16. Pics???
I recently had a private message from cranger11 about my thoughts after owning the 265/75s for a while and I'd thought I'd share my response with everyone. I don't have the truck anymore due to a need for better fuel economy. However for this same reason, I was disappointed with the 265/75s. They were obviously bigger so they looked good, but KILLED my fuel economy. After doing some research I found it wasn't just because if the diameter, but also the weight! As a matter of fact, the weight of the tire had the biggest effect. It had a high load rating for use on large trucks, but was too over kill, heavy, and a little rough riding for my small Ranger. I returned the tires to Discount after only a couple weeks and went a little different route. I bought some 15x8 aluminum wheels and some 31x10.50R15 BFG tires. The diameter was a little smaller, but the tires weighed MUCH less! My fuel economy came back to exactly what it was with the stock tires and it rode nice! I could not have been happier with the end result and was so happy I made the switch. If fuel economy is at all a concern, I'd suggest doing the same. The 31s were much less expensive than the 265/75s, so after getting my money back, and then selling my factory wheels, I had enough to buy the 15x8 aluminum wheels without having to take more money out of my pocket. 265/70s have a lower load rating and didn't weigh as much as the 265/75s so I'm sure that would have helped a lot too, but definitely never regretted the 31s. Just thought I'd share.

LT265/75R16/E BSW
Would the above tire be too small, or just right on 16 x 8 MT wheels,,, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mtt-368421
I'm looking to rid myself of the stock tri-spoke chrome over stock 16" rim.
Finally, won't the LT tire be heavier(less gas mileage) than a passenger rated tire close to the same size?
Thanks!

I'd say it would be ok...
Those tires are big tires though, and will ride rougher since there 10 ply. Your gas mileage will likely suffer with the added weight too.

OK, so I'll go w/ 31, 10.5 x 15"(I don't see a 31" available in 16") on the 15 x 8's and that should fill up the wheel wells just fine w/ a 1-2" suspension lift. 33's are too big. I have the 4.0L V6 and 3.73 gears.

That's what I'm working on doing should be real nice looking .. I like 31's and would rather keep the nicer ride and gas mileage:lol

I'm just maybe reconsidering the 265 75 16 now, how much did your fuel mileage drop?! I have the tires now but may end up returning them for the 70 or a total different tire

I lost around 4mpg. City driving it's quite noticable. Highway not so much.

I can pull 17-18 mixed city/highway driving. And that's with a pretty heavy foot.

Traffic killed my in town. Houston was 2 hours to drive 15 minutes on a clear road.
Even with the 38.5's on mine now which are in the 100lbs a pop per tire range with 35-40lb rims I am still able to get 16MPG mixed in south dakota which is mostly highway. I also have a bit of a heavy foot. Mind you this truck is now in the 5400lb range with my normal load of a spare and two people. That's over the GVWR of a 4.0L 4x4 so not very many other trucks will ever haul that much in normal day to day. If I were back at stock weight and still properly geared I would bet money the truck could still pull off 18-20MPG. Tires make a difference, but the actual driver makes a bigger one.

Don't forget guys, if you don't recalibrate your speedo/odometer, it will mess with what you are thinking you are getting. So a larger tire will make less revolutions, so it will make it seem like you are getting worse mpgs

Good point, I'm hoping ill be ok enough to go from stock 255/70 16 to a 31" on a 15x8 wheel and not touch the speedo :....?
