The sizes you are comparing would be almost impossible to tell the difference if you where standing back from the truck. As far as too big (look at mine) the 265 75's will not be too big at all. another thing to consider is after you put some miles on those tires they are gonna shrink so the bigger tire will be close to the smaller at about half life (???). The big question you need to answer is how much you want them to stick out? I say the bigger of the two would come out to the fender flares perfect and that if you do decide to go with the smaller you will always say shoulda.02

Edit: Oh ya and mine are "E"s as well and they are a little stiffer but I love the fact that I feel like I can do anything with them. They are very strong!

I went to Discount Tire today and did some comparing. They were even willing to mount one of each size just so I could see how they looked.

not sure about others - maybe some exhaust mods that won't mess with Cali emissions.

i had 265/70/16 pathfinders all terrians on a stock 99 xlt and had no problems with clearence. the difference between load rarings is the number of plys/belts in the tire whether is be steel or polyester. for example load range C tires are a 6ply, load range D tires are 8ply, and a load range D tires are 10ply which means the more plys/belts you have in your tires the stiffer the ride is going to be. this also means the tires can handle more weight and have a higher max psi rating.

Great info; thanks, all! I've been debating a tire upgrade ever since I joined FRF. This thread helped seal the deal!

Default Made my decision!!!

I did it! I finally pulled the trigger. As most of you could probably tell, I REALLY wanted the smaller 265/70/16 to help with power, gas mileage, ride quality (D rating instead of E) and to maintain a more “factory” look on the stock wheels. After reading all of your comments and seeing each tire mounted on my Ranger, I went with the larger LT265/75R16/E RWL - BFG All-Terrain T/A KO. I'd like to thank you all for your information, suggestions, and opinions. I’m including a picture but I plan to take a few “glamour shots” when the weather gets better and I have time to clean it. For now, I’m really enjoying the new treads and I’m very happy with my decision. Thanks again!

I concur; very nice!

Be sure to keep us updated on how the truck behaves in its new shoes; I'd like to know about the drivability, ride, MPG, etc., as I'll be in the market soon, too.
