Default Need a fix! Help me with this.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I need a bit of help. i need to see what others have done to there truck, it might help me out. I got my Mickey thompson tires and wheels in but i had a bit of a problem. here we go.
The truck is a 2003 ranger xlt. The old wheels were
16". I ordered 15" wheels.. When we went to install them we noticed the 15's would not fit/clear the calliper assembly. So the guy installing them said we would have to get 1.5" wheel spacers to make the new wheels fit. it did work but now we noticed that the wheels are not straight up and down it now has negative camber. Any ideas what I need to do to make this right. I am not sure what to do. i dont know if they make a smaller rotor and calliper assembly that will accomidate 15" wheels. or keep the spacers.. But i need to correct the camber issue. Any ideas?

You have to be careful with the use of spacers. Was your truck aligned?

I have not had it alligned yet. i am going to do this early part of next week.
I am just kind of scratching my head as to what to do to fix it or how to make the wheels fit wothout the spacers.

If it were me I would have tried to return the wheels/tires or swap them where you got them

I am really not sure. The shop said that the 15's would not fit without a wheel spacer. Do you know how tight yours are on the inside of the wheel.
I do know that the wheels that were on it were 16 in wheels.
I think this is why i have negetive camber, because the wheels are now out 1 1/2" further than what they were supposed to be

The 15s should fit fine--there's not alot of extra room around the calipers, but they will fit-I had some 15x8 Classic IIs on my '04 years ago and had no problems whatsoever.

I did go look at the information on the insode of the door to see what was orinally on the truck. It says that the original tires were 16's. i wonder if I the rotors are actually a touch bigger than one that came equipped with 15's
if so do you think I could change out the rotors and callipers i have with ones that came on a truck that had 15's. i would really like to suck the wheels back under the truck

My '01 4x4 came stock with 16s and now I have 15" MT Classic Locks on it... They fit just fine. If I were you, I would take one of the spacers off yourself and see if they fit... The shop might just have been being extra cautious.

I will try it. I hope it will work. if not do you know if I can change out the brake calliper and rotor assembly on my 2003 to a smaller assembly so they will fit.
For example. a 2003 that came equipped from factory with 15's. assuming that the callipers and rotors might be a bit bigger on mine that came with the 16's?

all '03+ 4wd's have the larger 12" rotors. Back in the day when those trucks first came out, there was a rash of people having issues fitting 15's. Usually came to being someone trying to run a 10yr old alloy on the truck. Steel wheels never have an issue...alloys are usually always the iffy ones. I've not heard of any 15" wheel fitment issues in a number of years(being part of the ranger community since '03).

I'm willing to bet the shop may not like the 1/16" gap between the caliper and inside of the wheel and wanted to pickup a $150 sale on those stupid ass wheel spacers.

What wheels? What are the wheels specs??? (width, backspace, etc). If you're trying to fit 15x7's, that's possibly the reason for your issues. Get 15x8's. I upgraded to 12" rotors and many many others with 03+ 4x4's run 15's with no issues what so ever. If you wanted to, you could downsize your rotors to the smaller 98-02 size of 11.2". To do this, you'd need the smaller rotors and a new set of steering knuckles.

In regards to the camber issue, is the suspension at full droop?? Because when an IFS rig is jacked up and the tires are hanging in the air, the camber goes way out of wack. It does this because of the un-equal length control arms.....top of tire goes in and bottom goes out.

A wheel change or tire change shouldn't make any difference in alignment since no body touched that. It could be possible you've got bad ball joints and/or wheel bearings and pushing the wheels outward due to those spacers may make the issue more "in your face".

The wheels are Mickey Thompson Sidebiters 15x10 with 3.63 backspacing and a 46mm offset. I am going to take it to a buddies this weekend and pull off the wheel spacers and try to see if the wheel will fit.

They will fit, I have 15"x10" Classic II's with the same backspacing and offset, as far as I can remember.
