Default 2010 Wheel size confusion

So, from reading in the forums or somewhere that I read that due to the rear disc breaks on the 2010 that 15" wheels don't fit.....or at least that's what I thought I read lol

Mine came with 15" wheels......when I search wheel websites for example tirerack.com it only gives me the option of 16" rims for the XLT

If I drop down to the XL I can find 15" wheels.....

Now for the not so obvious stupid question.....are the ford factory rims that are 15" specially cut on the inside as to fit the 15" rim and all aftermarket rims won't fit unless they are 16" rims?

I'd like to keep with 15" rims as tires are cheaper...anyways, thanks

BTW tirerack updated their "pictures" for the 2010 rangers :-)

I have the same problem, all the websites say it has a 255/70R16 but what came on my truck is 223/75R15. What it the deal with that?

15in rims fit fine with the disc brakes. The front disc brakes are larger than the rear ones. So the switch from drum to disc is not an issue on rim size.

Now if you upgrade to Brembo brakes then you would have to run a bigger rim for sure.

Not so stupid a question. I've run across vehicles where the wheel design does matter.

An example would be the 1997 - 2001 Honda CR-V. The brake calipers are rather large and the wheel will hit the caliper on a lot of non-stock rims unless you install a spacer (bad idea) or grind the caliper down some. Even with rims that do fit, including stock ones, there is damn little clearance between the caliper and the rim.

Now, concerning the Ranger, you might be having the same issue. I don't know from personal experience since I have a much older model.

I think the only reason for the 16's is 15" is pretty much non-existent any more on mid size vehicles. I sold my OEM Alloy 15" wheels that went on a '10 base model ranger that had steel wheels
