Question think its times for new ones

Hi. on my 98 xlt 2.5l, 5spd, 2wd, the tires are 15/70/225 with abt 1/2 life remaing(i think), bfg longtrail trail t/a. its been raining, misting, drizzle, etc.... Well on a dead stop I am hydroplaning big time, cant get going. i am not a fan of bfg in the 1st place, but thats besides the point. I dont have a lead foot.

Can it be the tires at the 1/2 way point that they start hydroplaning? or is it because of the rear wheel drive, light bed? I think its the tires. I shouldnt be hydroplaning(this much) in drizzle, mist, puddles, wet surfaces.

I was thinking abt going with Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S. Just keep in mind that I live in the northeast, >snow, sleet, rain, etc....

I read posts from others on tires but that did do me any justice. Sorry for long post. just wanna ask, state everything properly.

My next tires will be the Geolander A/T-S. They will be going on a Subaru tho, and over on the Subaru boards everyone that has them loves them.

wait... your tires are at the halfway point and you think they need replacing?
the hydroplaning is due to the light weight in the rear. Tires should NOT need repacing at the halfway point. (unless they are Goodyear wrangler RT/S !!)
My tires have been on my truck for 5 years (40,000 miles) and they are barely at the halfway point.
