Default Mud tires on ice?

as of now i have the stock bfg all terrain on my 06 level2. I'm getting a 3" bodylift in the next couple weeks, and with Winter coming in Canada (Manitoba) the snow and ice are intense, i want the aggressive look of mud tires but I've just heard mud tires are junk on ice. Is there a brand out there that is decent, or am i better off using what i have and waiting til spring? BTW i'm wanting to use my alcoa wheels, so from what i've gathered 33" tires can and will fit, (with the bodylift)

Not sure if there is a good tire for ice . I use the wranglers on my ranger , but my other truck , I used the Toyo Town and Country and had good luck with those . Beefy street tire . Knobby as well , a few bucks too ... All around I was very satisfied .. My opinion but there are so many out there to choose . We do not allow studs or chains in Massachusetts as it chews up the roads .

There are some tires that are better for ice than most but they generally tend to be winter tires. Nothing beats a tire with studs or a set of tire chains though.

There is no such thing as a good tire on ice, espcially if you get one of those flash freezes where it rains and the water freezes as soon as it hits the road. Then it's time to grab your butt and don't panic. Hitting the brakes or the gas will only get yourself in a world of crap, just coast to a safe speed or to a stop.

I had that happen to me last winter. My winter tires and AWD are the only thing that saved my butt. There were a lot of vehicles along the side of the road and it was quicker to get to work than home by that point. I had to remove the seat cushion from my nether regions once I got there.

Being in Canada, isn't there some sort of requirement for all citizens to have a set of winter only traction tires? The tires that have the snow flake on the sidewall. I know I've read from people up there saying something of the like.

in Quebec it is law that you must have winter tires, making it impossible for anyone else in canada to find winter tires the first year because they were buying them up like crazy down there

I had the BFG A/T's on a truck ('96 S-10 4x4) and those tires did quite well in the snow the few times I had it out in it. They sucked in the mud the one time...but that mud was fierce.

Most of the snow tires that I seen are marked as being M+S (mud/snow) tires. Maybe a pure mud tires have a harder rubber than snow tires. The wear ratings on the tires should be a good indicator of the rubber hardness. The harder the rubber, the longer the tire should last.
