Default flat tire sensor question

So i have a 2010 ranger with the low tire pressure gauge. 1st how does that sensor work and does changing tires/rims affect that sensor

From what I understand it is a pressure sensor. So it monitors the pressure inside the tire.

If you switch rims you got to swap the sensor band over to the new rims. If not the light will stay on.

Yep. The tire pressure sensor is banded to the rim.

is there anything special i need to take think of when buying rims? I'm looking at going for mustang rims with low-pros

New bands to attach the TPMS to the new rims.

The bands are essentialy a large hose clamp

the band may fit the new rims.

The factory bands are a one time use deal. Not reusable.

I got new bands from Discount Tire Dirrect for 6.00 each.
