Default Smaller snow tire question...14" ?!

I have a 2000 Sport 4x4 and have access to 4 225 70 r14's on Ranger wheels. They said they were used on a 98 Ranger 2wd. On my Sport it has the 16's....255 70r 16's

I guess the question is would you use these 14" tires for a couple of months during the winter? There are a lot of threads asking "how big" can I go but going "small" seems to be rare. Maybe everyone's suffering from other conditions by going "big" but not me.

225/70-14 is 12.2% smaller than the 255/70-16...a rule of thumb for max allowable is 2-3%. Your speedo will also be way off. The load rating on the 14's is 98. 109 to 111 on the 16's.

Personally, I won't do the switch. Stock on my truck is the same (255/70-16)....I will be using 245/75-16 for my winters....1.4% larger than stock.
