Default Ride Comfort on my 02 XLT 2.3L

I have a set of Kumho KR21, which is the worst tire I have ever had on a car or truck. These China 80K tires are a big joke. The ride is choppy, the tread is really narrow and it shakes the wheel on any kind of bad pavement. I have had the tires re-balanced a bunch of times and are still awful. I don't expect my truck to ride like a Lincoln (or a Taurus for that matter), but there has to be better tires out there.

The tire size that is currently on the truck is P215/75R15. I would like to either use the stock tire size or go with P225/75R15. My question is, for ride quality, would it be much of a difference is I get the 75 or 70 series? My truck never leaves the road but I travel in snow conditions quite often.

I am looking at these two tires:

70 series: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....toModel=Ranger Reg 2wd XLT&autoModClar=

75 series: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

Of course, I would welcome any other suggestions.

Thanks!

i have the destinations on my F-150 and they are an amazing tire. they ride great, are quiet and smooth and they are snow rated though i havent had them in the snow yet. wet weather traction is great too. also, as far as your ride goes, how old are the shocks on the truck?

I have brand new KYB Gas-A-Just shocks, installed about 2 months ago.

The make of the tire will determine how harsh they ride in any given size. I've heard of one tire being like rocks and the next really smooth.

Side wall side will play into this as well. the 75 series tire will be slightly smoother than a 70 series.

Since snow is a consideration, the narrower the tread, the better for digging down through the snow to the pavement below. With that being said, the aspect ratio of 70 verus 75 won't be that big of a difference (60 series tires and lower make great tobbogans).

I did not look at the tires you are considering but since you are looking at Tire Rack, look at the reviews. You can narrow the results down to the vehicle make and model and go from there.

The Firestone Destination tires (both the LE and AT) have gotten very good reviews on Tire Rack and that is what I'm using. I'm happy with them so far.
