Default speedometer gearing

'93 Ranger XLT EXT 5 speed 4.0L RWD
14" wheels to 15", need to change speedo gear to right size for proper speed reading. I need to know what I am looking for (both on vehicle and...), where I can get it (part # even if it's out there) and how do I UN- and INSTALL it. I'm not at all greedy but I am thirsty for knowledge. I like the 15's and I don't know how much time I have before the next; what did I do wrong sir?...SO, any help?

ALSO, if I may

pops out of 5th gear; I just run without it but hey it's there so it should be functional, any help on this one?

As for your gear popping out issue. could be one of two things but the first is simpler and likely a needed mod anyway. The shifter bushings go bad and or often start to show signs of wear. This should eliminate the issue unless it is a bad gear set bearing but being its 5th gear and not in lower gears like 2nd or 3rd.. I'm almost positive this will fix your issue like it did mine.

Put your old tire size and your new tire size into the "calculator" on this site and it will tell you how much the speedometer will be off.

https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc

Your odometer will be off also if you track your gas mileage. Then just keep a close eye on the speedometer while you're driving. Much easier and cheaper than changing the speedometer gear. Not that it's a very hard job or anything but this way is totally free.

I went from a 14" stock size on my '97 Ranger to the closest size I could find in the tire I wanted and my speedometer was only off by 5%. At 60 mph it read 63. At 30 you wouldn't even notice a change. (31.5 mph)

Oh Deer: 2003 XL 2.3L 5-speed stick w/OD. Current mods: Body work after hitting a deer 12 hours after I bought it. Averaging 32 MPG on the highway.
