How practical are 33s with a t-bar crank
So I've read the tire size guide, and I know that 285/75r16 tires can fit on my truck with cranked t-bars, but there seem to be conflicting reports on how useful they will be off road. I don't do much off roading, but my truck does see trails when I go camping. My buddy has a land cruiser on 35s so I need anything I can to keep up. My t-bars are leveled out with the rear right now, but if I crank them higher and put an add-a-leaf or shackle lift in the rear would I be okay with tucking the 33s or should I just go with 32s instead? Also, I'm not sure if my stock rims are 16x7 or 16x8. I guess 16x7 rims are too small for 285/75/r16? Thanks in advance.

I'd do 32's... I had my bars maxed and an add a leaf and ran 265/75/16. Pretty good setup. I did mild off roading and was fine. You won't even have to max your bars to run the 32's

Re: How practical are 33s with a t-bar crank
Honestly you will probably be better off with 32s.
Stock wheels are 16x7 and you could run the 285. Plenty of people have done it.

Re: How practical are 33s with a t-bar crank
33s will be stuffed without a proper lift. I ran 32s, but to me they looked stuffed, especially without cranking tbars.
31s look great with no tbar crank:
32s look ok, but start to look stuffed:
33s will rub bad

How practical are 33s with a t-bar crank
I had no problems with my 285/75s on just a t bar crank, I had them on 16x8s with 4.5" back spacing and that helped keep them in the right spot.
You may rub your flares if you have them but I only popped them off if I fully articulated the rear suspension. Pics in my build thread if your interested.

Re: How practical are 33s with a t-bar crank
I may not be the best example because my truck has #1 bars and heavy duty leaf springs, but with a very light t bar crank I could fit 33s without issue, but they sucked in my opinion. They looked too stuffed and didn't allow much clearance off-road. Plus, they really bog down the truck. Not so bad that it's inconvenient to drive, but you can definitely tell a difference. I sold my BFG MTs for a set of 32x11.50s. I love them. They give the truck a slightly wider looking stance and they actually make the truck look taller because they aren't as stuffed. Im not a fan of the stuffed look, I like having some space, so you may like them.

Re: How practical are 33s with a t-bar crank
Hmmm, okay. If 285/75r16 is probably too big, do you think if I went to 15 inch wheels 33x10.50 would be any better?

How much do you rub, if at all? Also, how do you know what t-bars you have? I have the off-road package so I think mine came with stiffer bars.

Nah, mine sits about the same as yours, I just don't like the stuffed look of 33s. That's just me though. I feel like the 32s just fit the size of the truck better. It's all opinion though. I like a little extra tire to fender well gap lol

Re: How practical are 33s with a t-bar crank
Definitely gonna go with the pizza cutter tire then. Either 235/85r16 or 33x10.50r15. Anyone got a set of 15 inch wheels they wanna trade me?

Re: How practical are 33s with a t-bar crank
265/75R16 on 16x8. Just leveled the bars, nothing done to the rear. It has a tiny rub at full left lock but it's just an Odd spot on the fender liner. Going on my third year with these, I'll go back to the 255 when I need new tires. I like how it looks but I miss the little bit of gear I lost from the extra inch of tire. You'll probably want longer front shocks as well. The stock ones like to top out once the bars are cranked up and it feels terrible when it happens.

Re: How practical are 33s with a t-bar crank
I'm running bilstein 4600s up front and they're doing a good job with the truck leveled. I do like the way the 265s look though, I just want as much height as possible without rubbing on the trail.

For a stock truck, I think the 265/75/16 is a pretty good size. Ran this size on my truck completely stock and with maxed torsion bars/explorer leafs. My truck gets out in the dirt quite often and I was pretty happy with that setup. Never had rubbing issues up front, but I could get the rears to start rubbing at full flex.
