I'd say the heavier the wheels, the worse the mpg.

But,

If i could, i would.

If all you do is driving around town I would go with 32's

My next door neighbour has an 04 ranger (4.0, 4x4) with a 3" body lift and 33's and he dropped about 3-4 mpgs around town when he put them on. He originally had 31's and was getting about the same mileage as you before the lift and tire swap.

It takes a lot of power to get those big heavy tires rolling.

just my .02

My truck did fine with the switch. I think I only dropped 1-2 mpg when I switched to 33's from the stock 28" tires... I think that's the stock size. I'm currently averaging 18mpg with no tune, 4.10s, 4.0L and 5 speed transmission. When I add the tune, I'm getting about 19-20mpg average.

I like the 32 idea ^. I don't think it would be worth it for just an inch more .02

I have 33's, 4.10's, and a tune. I get anywhere from 18-20 on the highway. That depends on my speed. Around town, I get about 15-16. Having my ScanGauge helps my MPG I think. I'm always watching it and seeing how different driving styles affect my gas mileage.

you call yours 33's? I have the same tire and I call mine 32's lol I guess they are close to 33 with 100% tread but I thought 32" was the estimated size of a 285/75/16....

lol ok then but for the purpose of the OP that is not very good advice then is it. I would think that he would have a hard time fitting true 33's on a truck with no lift on it.

Not true. Besides, unless he gets different wheels he won't be putting a true 33 on it. They don't make a TRUE 33 for a 16" wheel. Now if he bought something like a 15x8 with about 4" backspacing and ran a 33x12.50" tire, he'd be fine.

I hear ya. When your talking 16" wheels tho and you want a 33 i would assume you start shopping for 295/75's and i would not recommend that lol. I love our tires! but i dont see myself stuffing another inch in my wheel well LOL

See 295's are 34's haha and I've considered trying to stuff 295's. They're roughly 34x12"
