Default Can a tire be too aggressive?

About one year ago I put new tires onto my 93 Ranger. It's a single cab 4x2, 3.0 liter with 142,xxx miles. I previously had some Cooper Discoverer tires on and replaced with Firestone Destination A/T's. The tire size is 225/70R/14. Like many of you know there aren't many choices for a 14" tire on a ranger. I wanted something with a good tread for handling snow and ice as I live in MN (I also use sandbags in the winter). Since I've had the tires I've had issues with my steering. The steering wheel doesn't return to the center on its own and have to correct quite a bit while driving. I can be on a curved road and the wheel stays in its spot and I can take my hands off the wheel and the truck continues to turn only slightly coming back. In early 2007 I had all four ball joints replace and a wheel alignment. Is this a steering issue with an alignment or in the steering gear box or are my tires too aggressive for my truck? I don't do any off road driving, all city and highway.

X2 but to elaborate, id say you have some steering issues. id def check out your front end parts such as balljoints, tie rods, gear box ect. if those check out have an alignment done, aggressive tires wont cause those symptoms.

Probably has to do with your caster. Not having enough caster will cause this to happen, I'm not sure if you can actually adjust the caster, but you should have a good alignment shop look at it.

Have have the same tire and size and they have been fine. Something is wrong with your suspension or steering. The tire has gotten very good reviews on Tire Rack from Ranger owners.

A tire can be too big and shorten the lifespan of your parts, but unless you plan to run mud diggers on asphalt, street legal threads are fine.
