Drum Brake replacement Problem
We had the hardest time with what should have been a straight-forward brake shoe replacement. The first set of replacement shoes had the right part number, but were different enough from the old shoes that we thought we actually had a mis- marked set. Got those exchanged for a set that appeared to align with the old ones well. So when we got back to the garage we encountered the same issue. The shoes fit right up and with springs in place etc., we could not get the drum to slide over them into place.
Got another set from another parts store, and this time got new drums. The same problem occurred. This time we could "make the drum fit" although it was very tight, and it locked up so badly the wheel could not spin.
We replaced those shoes with the old ones, which slid into place easily. I took the new parts back for a refund.
When we used a small bar clamp as a caliper to measure if it was in the round, we found it out of round, and guessed that was why the drums would not fit over the shoes.
We were stumped as to what happened, or what we did wrong. My buddy also came by to check our work, but he was stumped by it as well. never had this kind of thing happen.
Maybe you can shed some light on this for me.
