Default 285/75R16 DOES FIT on STOCK!

I've owned my ranger (4x4 4.0L) many years now and have always refrained from 285/75R16s because of many saying that they scrub, are hard to drive around, etc without gears and a lift. I decided to ignore all that and buy a set anyway.. Here's what I've found:

Obviously acceleration is slower and gas mileage isn't the best in the world BUT with a slight torsion crank, they fit with 0 issues and do not scrub even at full lock. Additionally, they look AWESOME! Mine are Multi-mile "Extreme Mud Claw" tires that surprisingly barely hum on the road. So, at least for anyone with a '98-2000 4x4, YES 285s fit!!

(Pictures attached, can post more if y'all want!)
Any questions just ask! (This is my first post and thread)

Looks good!

However, just to clarify for anyone coming across this in the future - guys have been running 285/75/16's for years now & it's pretty much exactly what it says in the "Chart of maximum tire size" sticky.

Sorry you waited so long for that great setup & look!

Sticky Info: "98-00 XLT 4x4, XLT Offroad, Trailhead -16x7 / 16x8 stock suspension: 285x75x16 (mild T-bar crank recommended but might not be needed.)"

If you could, please post your wheel & tire information in this thread for reference by others in the future: Ranger Wheel Reference Page

Thanks man! And well... I saw a few running them but could not find any pics or confirmation, all I could ever find was "DON'T DO THIS WITHOUT *insert expensive modification here.* Of course, I'm not exactly a master of forum searching.

Aggressive tread gets louder as it wears down. Keep them rotated. Looks good.

7.5" wide wheels are the minimum for that tire. LT285/75/16s will beat you to death on a small Ranger and can't be too good for the suspension.

I've been running 33x10.5x15 on my stock 15x7 Ranger wheels for about 15k miles with no issues. Jeep guys swear by a narrower wheel to help keep the bead from popping while offloading, so I figured it'd be fine. No problems so far.

The main reason I put 33's on is because I started daily driving my truck to work on I-95 for 45 miles each way, and I wanted to get my RPM's down as much as possible because traffic flows so fast and I felt like I was killing it running at such high RPM's for so long. It's a little slower to accelerate, but not bad. It'll run 90mph all day now. Still been averaging 17.5mpg. These tires are 14.2% larger than stock, so it's also keeping 14.2% less miles off my odometer . It's already at 234k, don't need to be hitting 300k too fast haha.
